Our unique approach to risk management is ideally suited to large infrastructure projects, where the combination of our commercial and military expertise alongside our expeditionary mindset enables us to deliver robust strategy design and risk management solutions.

By working with Strategia you benefit from the experience of our Infrastructure Team as well as the ‘value add’ our network of regional and technical specialists. All our teams can deploy worldwide, sometimes at very short notice, in order to properly understand the environment in which you and your clients operate. By being independent, ‘on-the-ground’ and by ‘walking and talking’ inside the company, in the communities and with the key stakeholders, including governments, media and NGOs, we are able to identify and gain a deep understanding of the source of the issues and risks facing your company or customer which may not always be apparent to the boardroom, especially ESG and/or LTO risks. As well as providing an experienced ‘boots on the ground’ capability, our teams can also reach back for advice and expertise from our wider associate and partner base, giving you access to the extensive combined knowledge and experience of our people.

Kampala is one of the world’s fastest growing cities. Built on swampland, climate change is an existential threat and infrastructure has failed to keep pace.  Challenges include access to basic services, chronic traffic congestion, slum housing and ‘3 waters’ (drinking, waste and flood), along with funding and chronic corruption.  The expiring 5 year strategy delivered <15% of promised programmes.

Reviewed the expiring 5 year strategy to identify lessons learned. Designed the strategy for the next 5 years, focusing relentlessly on achievable (‘bankable’) projects and resisting political pressure for high profile vanity projects. Gained  buy in of the Executive Director (a direct appointee of the President) to the key capacity building programmes, such as project management, risk management, process re-engineering etc needed to maximise the chances of success.

A strategy, with 31 separate programmes, that will genuinely benefit all citizens, is innovative (accessing private finance, e.g. PPP for low cost housing), but is deliverable, creates realistic expectations and engages the citizens of Kampala.

What our clients say

“Partnering with Strategia Worldwide for the production of a strategic risk assessment, for our work in support of the Pakistan Cricket Board, was an inspired choice. Not only was their team of risk experts able to identify and mitigate the complex challenges associated with working in Pakistan before our team deployed, but their support on the ground ensured not only the complete success of our original contract but also allowed us to successfully bid for further work in the region. We have complete confidence in Strategia’s ability to deliver the support we need, where and when we need it and would have no hesitation in using their services again.”

Sara BondHead of Legal, Sunset & Vine

“Strategia worked with our team on-the-ground to quickly understand, analyse, and propose concrete solutions for a number of complex and inter-connected problems we were facing. The approach they used allowed us to situate the problems that mining companies face in a broader context and develop strategies to better manage risk”

Kevin DushniskyEx President Barrick Gold

“Strategia’s proactive, integrated approach to managing risk in complex, difficult and challenging environments is unique. It has particular relevance to the mining industry, both for new projects, and for existing businesses which are in challenging circumstances.”
