Martin is an experienced senior leader and expert in security, risk management and business resilience. Highly strategic, he is accustomed to influencing c-level decision-making and shaping company policy. Martin is committed to continuous professional development and completed a master’s degree in Security and Risk Management in 2008. He holds a current UK Close Protection Licence.

Joining the Royal Marines in 1988, Martin worked as a service policeman, specialising in close protection and investigations. He was one of few Royal Marines to be trained at the time by the Royal Military Police in Close Protection and was deployed in this capacity on several occasions. He was also attached to the Special Investigations Branch (SIB) specialising in investigating criminal offences of a more serious nature. Since moving into the civilian sector in 2002, Martin has enjoyed appointments in shipping, logistics, mining, civil (government), maritime and oil/gas sectors across the globe.

Martin has worked extensively in Africa in senior security management and consultancy positions. Most notably, he spent 4 years in Nigeria in two high profile roles; firstly, as the Chief Security Officer/Transport Officer for the British High Commission based in Lagos and latterly as the Head of Security for major shipping company, Maersk Ltd.

Working as a Senior Security, Risk & Business Resilience Consultant, Martin was deployed to Namibia, Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo and Madagascar to provide embedded security management consultancy to 3 multi-national mining companies. This period also featured a role with an oil/gas company in Kazakhstan and a year-long position in Afghanistan as a Country Security Manager for a logistics company.

From there, Martin was employed by an FTSE 100 mining company, Rio Tinto, culminating in appointment to Global Principal Advisor – Group Security & Business Resilience. Currently, Martin is consulting for several international security/risk management firms; safeguarding the interests, assets and operations of client organisations and is presently supporting the travel security management programme for a leading aerospace company subsidiary.

Martin is accustomed to working in hostile and conflict-affected areas and he responds to challenges and complexity with tenacity and agility. His international perspective, business acumen and political awareness have been key to his success. With an engaging management style, Martin gets respect, credibility and results. He excels at communication and negotiation, with particular strength in winning consensus and driving action across a complex network of stakeholders.
