Neema is an independent consultant with 10 years of public policy, strategy and risk management experience in Africa’s mining and energy sectors.

Neema spent four years leading commercial consultancy projects for Africa Matters in Southern and West Africa, where she advised the mining and energy sectors at their interface with host governments. Prior to this, Neema was seconded to the National Minerals Agency – the regulatory arm of the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Resources in Sierra Leone – where she managed a two-year GIZ funded project aimed at increasing mining revenue and promoting public administration efficiency in the country’s mining sector. Upon successful completion, she was enlisted to develop a roadmap for the introduction of beneficial ownership and due diligence in mining license management in Sierra Leone, in line with EITI requirement 2.5 – beneficial ownership disclosure.

Earlier in her career, Neema worked with Global Witness and the Natural Resource Governance Institute, where she researched corruption in Africa’s oil, gas and mining sectors, and campaigned for stronger disclosure rules in Section 1504 of the Dodd Frank Act and the EU Accounting and Transparency Directives. Neema has an MSc in Globalisation and Development from SOAS and a BSc in Business Economics from the University of Surrey. She recently joined Women in Mining UK’s Global Outreach Committee as their Southern and East Africa lead.
