Martin has worked in the international oil & gas exploration business since 1980, making material oil finds on several continents, as well as starting-up and funding oil companies. He has hands-on experience of all technical, managerial, legal and commercial aspects of the industry, and has managed operations in countries as varied as Colombia, Egypt and Kazakhstan. Martin has held board positions in public companies listed on TSX, AIM and LSE, as well as in consulting and management consulting companies. He has also acted as a Competent Person, expert witness, and advisor to various governments on attracting upstream oil & gas investment capital.
Petroleum geology is Martin’s academic strength, holding B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees; he is a past Visiting Professor at UCL, and has published research, and is an expert on, South America, North Africa, West Africa and Ireland. Subsequently, as his interests have broadened into creating shareholder value, Martin took a Management Diploma at the Open University, and has become an authority on issues of risk in the industry, including activism associated with fracking and climate change.
Martin is fluent in Spanish, and speaks some Arabic, Italian and Russian.
