Michael has 30 years experience in international affairs, spanning diplomacy, development and defence, from Afghanistan, the Gulf and Sudan to Brussels, Washington and New York. He specialises in strategy, political risk, communications and media relations, particularly in complex and fragile environments.
Michael has held a series of leadership roles advising and working with senior political, military and business figures, including as UN Assistant Secretary-General for External Relations & Advocacy at the United Nations Development Programme, British Ambassador to Qatar, Head of Mission at the multinational, civil-military Helmand Provincial Reconstruction Team in Afghanistan, and UK Special Representative for Sudan.
Michael has also served in the UK Embassy to the US, and in UK diplomatic missions to the United Nations in New York and to NATO and the European Union in Brussels. He holds a MA in Classics & Modern History from Oxford University and a MSc in West European Politics from the London School of Economics.
