Ukraine Recovery

CHALLENGE

We were asked initially, in January 2022, to review the firm’s BCP and crisis management processes in Ukraine in the light of the Russian threats and the fact they had 5000 employees there.  This
changed rapidly on February 24 to immediate assistance in the form of advice to help ensure the security and welfare of their staff in Ukraine in the face of the Russian invasion.

As the invasion progressed the requirement morphed into generating scenario analyses to help the company plan for the worst, best and most likely events.  We also provided advice and high level contacts to help them identify alternative countries in the region
where they could base operations, to reduce their dependence on Ukraine.

SOLUTION

We generated successive scenario based assessments, roughly every ten days, as the invasion progressed drawing on our connections in the region, Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) and our deep expertise in geopolitics, security and military affairs.  The company used these to plan where and how to maintain their operations.

OUTCOME

Based on our advice the company was able to adapt its operations and move its people to the safer parts of the country with the minimum disruption.

Again, based on our advice and connections (in one case with the Office of the Prime Minister) they were able to identify, and begin negotiations with, alternative counties in the region where thy could base their operations. In the event they were able to maintain productivity in Ukraine at a remarkably high level based partly on the advice we provided.
