Arthur Snell joined the British Foreign Service in 1998. He is an Arabic speaker and held postings in Yemen, Iraq and Afghanistan. He was Head of the Arabian Gulf Section at the Foreign Office in London and from 2007 – 2010 was Assistant Director for Counter Terrorism, with responsibility for global countering violent extremism (CVE) programmes. From 2011 – 2014 he was British High Commissioner (Ambassador) to Trinidad and Tobago.

Since 2014 he has worked as a consultant, adviser and speaker on geopolitics, with a specialism in the Middle East and the Islamic World. He is the author of of a book on British Foreign Policy and is currently writing a book on the geopolitics of climate change, due for publication in several languages in 2025.
