Expertise: Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) Risk and Mining.

Locations: Global (based in Canada).

Kevin is a recognized professional and thought leader, with over 30 years of direct experience in over fifty countries, in ESG-related issues in the mining sector. Kevin has a proven and successful track record focused on creating ESG value through informed strategic planning, governance, and tactical operational implementation for numerous top, mid-tier, and junior mining companies. He has worked directly for or consulted to, numerous mining companies including many of the industry’s majors such as Barrick Gold, AngloGold Ashanti, Gold Fields, Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton, Kinross, and De Beers.  Most recently he was the Chief Sustainability Officer with Resource Capital Funds where he led the full integration of ESG throughout the company’s investment processes from due diligence through full stewardship, and before that he was the VP of Security, Sustainability & Environment for Centerra Gold.

Kevin has designed and implemented robust ESG strategies that align with Good International Industry Practices (GIIP) in the mining sector for both performance and disclosure, including ICMM Sustainability Framework and Principles, IFC Environmental and Social Performance Standards, Equator Principles (EPs), World Gold Council – Responsible Gold Mining Principles (RGMPs),Mining Association of Canada – Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM), Copper (Nickel, Zinc, & Moly) Mark, Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA),OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Business Conduct, Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHR), International Cyanide Management Code (ICMC), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB).

Kevin has also worked extensively on mining-related developmental programs with International Funding Institutions (IFIs) supporting emerging market Governments on mining policy reform and investment programs (including the World Bank, IFC, EBRD, ILO, USAID and the UK’s DFID).

He is currently a member of the technical advisory committee for Mining 2030 (Global Investor Commission on Mining); an advisory panel member for Diversity in Sustainability (DiS); an advisory board member for International Women in Mining (IWiM); and a member of the global Mining Security Working Group (MSWG).

He is a mining engineering (MEng) graduate from Royal School of Mines, Imperial College in London and is Charted Engineer (CEng), a Fellow of the Institution of Materials, Metallurgy and Mining (FIMMM) and a Fellow of the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (FIEMA).
